Meadville-Unionville basketball fans participate in the playoff game alleged by police
Meadville – Four adults and three teenagers face charges for a fight that broke out in a high school basketball playoff game on Friday.
The battle at the Middleville Area Senior High School Stadium broke out in a game between Middleville and United Town, with three minutes left in the fourth quarter after a foul on United Town players. The review of the incident led to the Pennsylvania Interschool Athletic Association recording the game as a forfeiture of two schools, ending their two seasons and sanctions for both schools.
Midville Police Chief Michael Stefanucci announced in a press release issued Wednesday afternoon that seven people face charges related to the fight.
The three teenagers facing charges are 16 years old, from Middleville. According to reports from the release, two of them face one charge of disorderly conduct, while the third faces simple assault, harassment and misconduct.
According to Stefanucci, there are also charges of a 44-year-old Uniontown man facing simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct; an 18-year-old United Town man facing disorderly conduct; a 25-year-old Meadville man facing disorderly conduct; and a 37-year-old Meadville man facing disorderly conduct.
Unless you have a felony or a senior misdemeanor, the Erie Times News usually does not identify the suspect.
Stefanucci wrote that the Middleville police, who attended Friday’s match, called for assistance after the outbreak of the fight, and the situation was quickly brought under control after the arrival of others, with no serious injury reported.
Stefanucci thanks to the Crawford Central School District employees who helped police during the incident. He also thanked “the vast majority of players and spectators who acted responsibly in the incident.”
