Meta’s new board members include former Trump security adviser
Meta announced that Patrick Collison and Dina Powell McCormick will join the board on April 15. Collison is the co-founder and CEO of Stripe, a payment processor and financial services company he founded with his brothers. He is also the co-founder of the ARC Institute, a biomedical science and technology organization. Meanwhile, Powell McCormick is a partner at Goldman Sachs and runs its global sovereign investment banking business. She also worked in the U.S. government and served as Vice President’s National Security Advisor during Donald Trump’s first term.
Powell McCormick helped shape the Trump administration’s foreign policy, especially in the Middle East as an Egyptian American. She also served as president and assistant to senior adviser to economic initiatives during Trump’s first term. However, her Trump-era appointment was not the first time she worked in the U.S. government: Back in the George W. Bush administration, she served as president of personnel, assistant assistant secretary of state for education and cultural affairs, and deputy secretary of state for public affairs and public affairs and public diplomacy. She married Republican Senator Dave McCormick.
“Patrick and Dina bring a lot of experience to our board of directors to support businesses and entrepreneurs. Patrick is committed to expanding economic opportunities, and Dina has long advocated for economic development and supported the career of entrepreneurs. Their views will be very valuable to the businesses we serve.
In January, Meta also welcomed UFC CEO Dana White, a prominent friend and assistant to Donald Trump, and supporters of his reelection bidders joined the board. White and Powell McCormick’s addition to Meta’s board suggest that the company is currently addressing Trump’s return to power, perhaps one of the ways the company has put itself in the current administration.
