Metropolitan Center Fielder Jose Siri Manager Carlos Mendoza, who was diagnosed with a left tibia fracture, told reporters after defeating Minnesota tonight (passed by Tim Healey of News Day). He will be on the 10-day injury list tomorrow and will definitely be lined up for a while.
Siri was injured on Saturday (via SNY’s video) foul. He came out of the game and was replaced Tyrone Taylor. Siri was still daily when preliminary tests showed that this might be a tibial contusion, but today’s subsequent imaging diagnosed the fracture. IL placement will clearly represent the Mets’ first season roster, rather than the DFA deal Alexander Canario. Since its opening day, New York has carried the same 26-player active lineup.
Even before the injury, Siri was a frustrating start. The right-handed outfielder collected only one hit in his first 20 bats. He drew four walks and stole several bases, but he played eight times in 24 set appearances. Siri’s gloves are more of his phone card. As a member of the Rays, he stood out in his career-high 130 games. Even though those numbers are one of the best defensive midfielders in the game, the Mets won him in the offseason trade.
