MLB Mail Bag: National, Painter, Royal Family, Yankees, Metropolitan

Today’s Mailbag enters the National Offseason approach, the accuracy of preseason victory predictions, what Andrew’s Painter This year, we will be the outfield for the royal family, the competition for small market teams, the Yankees’ third base, the Mets’ rotation, and so on.
Steve asked:
Now, the Nationals have spent more than $50 million in the offseason to make new acquisitions. Do you like their strategy of building depth and keeping books clean for the next few years with a lower risk per player?
OTOH, they could have gone all out and reached the rumored price of Bregman in 7 years at $210 million, and there is enough money to Nathaniel Low Ogasawara, and added Finnegan, Lopez and Poche to their bullpen and skipped DH’s bullpen and Bell’s signature Sims.
Which route do you prefer?
Just for review, the National added Trevor Williams,,,,, Mike Soroka,,,,, Kyle Finnegan,,,,, Josh Bell,,,,, Shinnosuke of Ogasawara,,,,, Jorge Lopez,,,,, Lucas Sims,,,,, Amed Rosarioand Paul Dejong In a free agency with AAV costing 38.75mm in 2025. They also switched to Nathaniel Lowe, who earned 10.3mm this year.
Despite a total of $49mm of 25 AAV, the team’s CBT salary is only $138mm. The question is whether 2025 is the time for the team to plop. According to comments to The Washington Post’s Barry Svrluga, owner Mark Lerner doesn’t do that. Quote GM Mike Rizzo, here’s what Lerner said to Svrluga:
“When Mike called me and said, ‘We really need to think about it,’ in next winter, we’re going to talk about it,’ “Now, he didn’t think about it – I agree with him: it doesn’t make sense to get a superstar and pay him hundreds of millions of dollars to win two or three games. You have to wait – like Jayson. Jayson is [the team] It’s really good, and that takes us to the next level. That’s the ideal situation. Always in our minds. “He paused. He smiled and said, “You might feel disgusted by it.” ”
Despite the increase, Fanggraphs have reserved only 73 Nationals this year. Even though – as I later showed in the mailbag – sometimes it’s going to beat their shots with twelve wins, but for wildcards, that might not be enough.
The Nationals have three suspicious lineups: DH’s Bale, Keibert Ruiz In the receiver, then Jose Tena/Dejong/Rosario at third base. Bregman alone wouldn’t make this team a possible contender, who turned 31 in March. I don’t think he’s suitable for the team Jayson Werth move. I doubt Nolan Arenado He will accept a deal to DC, and he has no feelings for this team anyway.
The Naths still owe Ruiz $40mm and have some attractive prospects in the pipeline, so I see why they aren’t doing anything there. Likewise, adding a bat bigger than Bell could mean a 74 or 75 win, not a 73.
