MLBTR Mail Bag: Giant, National, Gleason, Gold, Metropolis

Mailbags this week become a potential offseason target for Giants and Nationals, a potential free agency Trent Grisham and ha-seong kimand the current six-player spin in the Metropolis.

Neil asked:

Giant fans are here. They killed my Jekyll and Hyde this year for the offense. This is the .500 team I expected, but they need higher team speeds and the defense is giving me a headache. Who should they target in free agents?

Todd asked:

I see my Giants hanging in the West (almost none!) but looking forward to next year, they need to get a “A” for the off-season next March? Obviously the ball is required, I am interested in the specific name that should be targeted. Thanks!

Let’s be a giant!

  • C: Yes Patrick Bailey Because the starter represents the option of sacrificing attack in the position of the gold glove defense. This strategy works, but you ideally make up for dead points in the lineup in other ways.
  • 1B: Rafael Devers It seems to be improving in defense; he has been splitting his time at first base Dominic Smith. In August, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote that the situation “could turn into a timeshare holiday relying on top prospects. Bryce EldridgeOn October 21, Eldridge had 100 WRC+ in 260 three-set games. He remains the prospect of No. 19 in baseball, so if and when he figures out Triple-A, he expects he will share first base and DH with Devers.
  • 2b: Tyler FitzgeraldA few weeks ago, the Giants’ Giants leader this year was selected as Triple-A. Since then, we have mainly seen Casey Schmittwith newcomers Christian Koss mix. The highest prospect Marco LucianoSometimes called a potential future second baseman, has spent a full year on Triple-A and has been playing left.
  • SS: Willy Adames Since July, settled with 149 WRC+.
  • 3b: Matt Chapman There were several IL treatments for hand injuries, but he still had a typical good year.
  • LF: Heliot Ramos Already hit with 111 WRC+ (also no splits), but he is one of the worst left fielders in the game this year. Therefore, his value is only 1.1 fwar. Ramos has been in team control in 2029 and is not eligible for arbitration in 2026.
  • CF: Jung Hoo Lee His first full MLB season has been solid WRC+ since July.
  • RF: with Mike Yastrzemski The Giants traded until Kansas City and kept giving Drew Gilbert and Luis Matos some people. The samples are too small to really name, but maybe they can form enough rows.
  • DH: It’s Devers, Smith and Wilmer Flores here. Smith and Flores may leave as free agents, but given Eldridge’s trajectory and defensive restrictions on striptease, the Giants shouldn’t do anything big.

The Giants’ offense this year is ninth in the NL, scoring 4.37 per game. Their WRC+ is even 100.

From August, this is the NL ranking third, all the way to 118. The club is carried by veterans, Lee and Chapman and donated by bonuses from Matos and Smith. The hope for next year is that Eldridge can show up and contribute, but the Giants can’t really count on it.

The second base seems to be a clear demand for the Giants. Gleyber Torres Will be a free agent again, and the trade market can offer some options, e.g. Luis Garcia Jr.

Giants can use the big bats in the corner outfield. Kyle Tucker It’s an obvious choice. Multifunctional Cody Bellinger It’s also suitable in San Francisco. Adolis Garcia Will be a cheap rebound candidate.

For Neil’s outfield defense issues, it would be helpful to keep moving from Ramos. Defensive upgrades may include Bellinger, Wilyer Abreuand Louis Robert
