Rory McIlroy’s decision to skip the first leg of the FedEx St. Jude Classic has made the PGA Tour Policy Committee player directors “very caring” and potentially lead to rules changes moving forward.
The World No. 2 and Ruler Champion exploited the loophole in the new playoff format and decided not to play this week’s game. Top 70 Qualifications in the FedEx Cup – Rory is currently second in St. Jude, top 50, before entering the BMW Championship, in the top 30 of the Tour Championship.
“Very worried,” Peter Malnati, a player director of the PGA Tour Policy Committee, told reporters Tuesday that a top player skipped the FedEx Cup playoffs. “I think there is something in it [to keep it from happening again] I will stay. ”
McIlroy, who can also sit on BMW if he chooses, still advances to East Lake’s final game, with all competitors starting in this year’s even-numbered matches with the start of the stroke format.
