14-year-old boy arrested on gun charges after fleeing police at Peoria Civic Center

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday for multiple guns ahead of the graduation ceremony of Richwoods High School at Peoria Civic Center.

Police said officials helped crowd control at the graduation ceremony around 2:40 p.m., when a boy left the line when he saw a metal detector and approached a group of men.

Police then observed a second group of men wearing masks, approaching the first group. To prevent confrontation, police blocked groups wearing masks. Police said one of the boys ran away immediately.

A brief pursuit led to the 14-year-old who had run around in the car. The officer also found the pistol in the car.

The teenager was arrested for illegally owning a firearm, without a foid card, possessing a pistol while under 21 years old and boycotting police. He is currently being held in Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
