Old clip overhaul of family attack with false contact with Indian Muslim Land Council

With deadly protests erupting in India Regarding the changes in legislation to change the way Muslim-owned property is managed, Social media users shared an ancient clip claiming it depicts Muslims attacking Hindus in West Bengal. But the video was published in a 2024 news report that showed that it showed violence related to the land dispute in northern Rajasthan.

“In Murshidabad, West Bengal, protests against the WAQF board involving arson,” the Hindi Facebook post shared on April 13, 2025, which included a clip showing several men throwing stones at a group of people.

The board of directors controls the property granted by Muslim charitable donations.

The post continues: “Three Hindus from the same family were also beaten to death.”

It continues: “The jihadists in Bengal are breaking into the poor Hindus’ houses.

Shared similar claims on Facebook along with the same video, after three people were killed in a deadly protest in West Bengal, the bill passed a bill to reform the huge wealthy Muslim land ownership organization (archived link).

According to the ruling Indian nationalist government, it will increase transparency in land management through a responsible and powerful WAQF board.

However, the opposition called the bill a “attack” against the polarization of Muslim minorities in India. They accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata party of trying to win favor with a right-wing Hindu base.

But the video has nothing to do with the protests.

Reverse image search for keyframes on Google Discover India released a clip today in a video report (archive link) on April 9, 2024.

It said the masked man tried to enter the homes of five families in the western Indian state of Rajasthan and stroked them with stones. The police suspected the attack was related to the land dispute, and the two were arrested for the incident.

Kavendra Sagar, a senior official of the Jaipur Police Department, told AFP on April 14 that both parties in the incident were from the Hindu community and “no public perspective.”

“The defendant was arrested immediately and sent to jail,” he said.
