Openai says if Google is forced to sell, it will buy Chrome

Google is monopolistic in online search under microscope, but the future of its huge digital service suite remains uncertain at this stage. Last month, the Justice Department suggested that Google needs to sell Chrome. If the tech giant does take this move, there is at least one interested buyer.

Bloomberg Chatgpt head Nick Turley reportedly talked about Google’s monopoly at a hearing today and was asked if Openai is interested in acquiring Chrome. “Yes, we’ll be like many other political parties,” he said. Currently, users can use Chatgpt AI Assistant in Chrome via plugins, but Turley said there might be deeper integration if Openai has a browser. Under the assumption of Openai’s ownership, Chrome can “introduce users to the appearance of the AI first experience.”

Chrome is not the only property that Google may lose control. A separate judge determined earlier this month that Google also engages in anti-competitive behavior. It’s no surprise that any other major technology operation would be interested in getting one of the many popular services Google has developed over the years. The real question is, which of these login purchases will not create new monopoly. Currently, the Justice Department allows Google to continue its AI investment in breakup speeches, but adding browsers to OpenAI’s stake may cause new problems. Since the wheel of justice usually turns slowly, it will take some time for us to understand the outcome of the recent Google ruling.
