Orioles choose Dylan beaver, designate Greg Allen

Orioles announce they have chosen outfield prospect contract Dylan Beaver From Triple-A Norfolk. In the corresponding move, the outfielder Greg Allen Designated as an allocation to create space on a roster of 26 and 40.
Whenever he plays, the Beaver makes his debut in MLB, and he believes he gets regular playing time for an undisputed Baltimore team. The promotion is a good birthday gift for Beaver, who was 24 earlier this week.
The 33rd inning was selected in the 2022 draft and in the first competitive balance round A selection, the Beaver was outstanding in his first two professional seasons before taking a step back in 2024. He smashed Double-A pitching in 2023, but at the same level he posted fewer numbers (.756 OPS) at the same level, didn’t hit much in the last season and didn’t take a lot of hits in the brief Sike Siks triple-triple-a comeo.
The Beaver has spent the entire 2025 season in Norfolk and has gotten back on track with a big road, reaching .304/.420/.515 with 18 home runs over 418 PA, and he stole 23 bases in 28 attempts. He missed weeks due to a sprained shoulder, but in the year, the beaver did not slow down, which greatly increased his hard contact numbers and walking speed while reducing strikeouts. The Beaver hit only 76 times this season and walked 68 times.
This time the emergence won the Beavers baseball for the August update to its top 100 prospects list. The Major League Baseball Pipeline cut the Beavers from the top 100, but like the BA, ranked Beavers as the third best prospect in the Orioles farm system. Both scout reports point to how Beaver changes his swing for most of his career to gain more power and play a bigger role at high speeds, and that these swing adjustments seem to be paying off. His solid speed and steady ability add to his offensive value as a threat to the stolen base. Defensively, the Beaver is seen as a corner fielder and has a chance to stick with the right one due to throwing above average arms.
The specific timing of the Beaver promotion is not surprising, as the coming August 16 means the Beaver will spend less than 45 days on the MLB roster, and the Oriole will certainly keep him below the 130 AT-BAT threshold. This means the Beaver will retain his rookie qualification until 2026, so assuming he earns at least the top 100 preseason top 100 prospect rankings, he may still be eligible for Prospect promotion incentives. Qualified PPI rookies can provide their team with additional draft picks if they qualify for a full year of service and then win Rookie of the Year honors, or win the best pick in the year before the bill, or win the top three in the MVP vote or CY Young awards.
Late season calls have long been part of baseball, although the PPI system has now provided some specific timelines for how teams can advance to some of their top league promotions. General Motors Mike Elias more or less admitted earlier this week that the PPI rules are a factor in the Oriole’s plan Samuel Basalloso it’s not surprising if Basallo also made his debut in MLB before the end of the 2025 season.
Allen signed with O on August 8 because the team needed fast depth due to a series of outfield injuries. Allen’s seven games against Baltimore marks his first major league game time since the 2023 season, although it was a rather mean game as he didn’t get a base in any of the 14 plates. Before joining the Orioles, Allen played for the Cubs’ Triple A branch and hit .270/.355/.440 on 231 PA.
Allen is a veteran of eight Major League Baseball seasons, known for his speed and ability to play all three outfield positions, even though he has never produced a lot on this dish. He has no minor league choices, and since he has been thoroughly and thoroughly in his career before, he will be able to elect free agents if he clears the immunity. A team that requires outfield depth may give Allen’s board a waiver claim, but it seems he will go into free agents and into free agents elsewhere in minor contracts.
