Oriole’s Thorough Cody Poteet – MLB Trade Rumor

Orioles announced right-handed this afternoon Cody Poteet Activated from the 60-day injury list and Triple-A Norfolk has been fully enabled. The club has not previously announced that Poteet is placed on the waiver, but apparently he has cleared it and will now head to the minor league if he accepts the mission.

Poteet, 31, has made only one appearance this year, surrendering five times in the 2 2/3 innings, walking twice at the same time and hitting only one. In 2015, the Marlins’ fourth-round draft pick did not make its debut until 2021. On the mound, it was about the league average work (below-average peripherals), but in 2022, UCL injury restricted him. He signed a minor league contract with the royal family while recovering from Tommy John’s surgery, but after the 2023 season he returned to free agents, who only made an appearance for Triple-A Omaha that year.

Poteet signed a major league deal with the Yankees before the 2024 season, and it was in the Bronx that the right-hander posted the best number in his career. Last year, Poteet made only five appearances in New York (four games), but in those 24 1/3 frames he posted a 2.22 ERA. The right-handed’s peripherals (including a 16.7% strikeout rate and a 4.03 FIP) aren’t as impressive as these original results, but he still proves the ability to be a valuable deep starter and swinger for the Yankees. He was tendered by the Yankees for a 2025 campaign contract and was trapped in the club’s 40-man roster, but returned to the Cubs in December, with the return Cody Bellinger.

Right-handed took part in the Cubs’ spring training, but did not remove the club’s roster from camp after a strong performance from non-lineup Invitee Brad Keller. Poteet had made room on the roster for Keller and returned to Al East shortly after being traded to the Orioles in late March. After Poteet made the above-mentioned single appearance at Orioles on April 20, he was put on hold by inflammation of his right shoulder and has been unable to act ever since. Poteet did start a rehabilitation mission last week and threw two innings of uncensored innings for the Norfolk Tide, and now he has activated him from the shelves and goes all out to the minors, and he will continue to pitch for the Tides if he decides to stay in the organization.

Of course, this is not necessarily guaranteed. Marlins was previously completely opened to minors by the Marlins during his career, meaning he had a chance to reject Baltimore’s mission instead of electing free agents. If Poteet signs with another organization by September 1, it will still qualify for the team’s playoff roster, so it’s no surprise that it will land him elsewhere, a deep choice for a club eager to pitch in the playoff hunt. Of course, since Poteet only has one inning at the major league level this season and the least at the major league level, it may also be just the best shot of cracking the major league roster anywhere in September, whether it’s in the Orioles organization or elsewhere.
