After the roller coaster awards season, Hollywood’s best and smartest people gathered last night to celebrate the most influential movie of 2024. While some of the prediction winners, such as Kieran Culkin, Zoe Saldaña and Adrien Brody, are topped by their respective categories, there are still many surprises in the others. It was an unbalanced show due to suspicious production decisions and significant technical failures, but much of the competition remained spike. All the biggest moments are retold below.

The biggest winner: Anora and Sean Baker

By the time the writers director – Director-producer Sean Baker won the second award of the night, it was obvious that the academy had all been on the way Anora train. During this award season, the Palme d’Or champion had a strange trajectory at the awards ceremony, gradually fading away during the Golden Globes, but with the votes from various guilds, it was enough to secure five wins for the film – including Best Picture. The fact that Baker is included in four of these wins means he matches most of the wins Walt Disney won in the year, and he is the first to win four Oscars for the same movie (for audiences at the Eagle-Eyeed Academy Awards, Bong Joon-Ho technology technically won only three titles. Parasiteeven if he was in four speeches at night). Baker used his platform to attract positive attention to sex workers, independent films and cinemas, and all of this has been integral to his film journey so far.

Demi Moore in substance. Christine Tamalet/Mubi

The biggest neglect: Demi Moore substance

although Anora And it’s undeniable talented leader, Mikey Madison substance. Feminist body horror films were nominated for five categories but received only the best makeup and hairstyle, a tribute to its huge aesthetic achievement. The academy has long maintained a trivial relationship with the horror genre, so the success of the Oscar has been an uphill battle, but Moore’s huge victory and exquisite speech at the awards ceremony made her seem ready to bring back the trophy. It would be a powerful moment to see her recognised on her biggest night in Hollywood after four decades of work, but that wasn’t the case. Again, Madison’s victory is certainly worthy, but Moore is a cruel irony substanceAging in the industry.

The biggest chaos: Hulu’s live stream

It’s the first year of the Oscars, dare to broadcast on network TV and streaming services, and Hulu real Drop the ball. First, many eager audiences simply cannot watch the show. Later, when Emma Stone was about to announce the aforementioned controversial Best Actress title, the stream cuts. The streaming message is that the show is over – before the best of the situation was announced. Apparently, in Hulu’s power, only three and a half hours were allocated, and the ceremony was spoken at three hours and 47 minutes. Cutting the show in front of the night’s biggest awards was one of the biggest failures of live streaming to date, a major blow to Hulu (and parent company Disney) live streaming ambitions.

The biggest frustration: I’m still here Beat Emilia Pérez

Extratextual X/Twitter drama ended up having a big impact on the Oscars, and this is the clearest fact in Brazilian drama I’m still here Win the Best International Film (but controversial) Emilia Pérez. Due to its stereotyped characteristics and more than the epic Spanish, the latter is the subject of many works of thought, not to mention the pain network of star Karla Sofía Gascón. Even if all this chaos is spinning Emilia Pérez It looks like it might be the winner of the best international film based on pure exposure. But, in a welcome twist, Brazil brings back its first Oscar I’m still herea more culturally sensitive (and specific) work that tells the story of activist Eunice Paiva.

Maximum Statement: No other land Win the Best Documentary

Although there is no formal U.S. distribution plan, No other land Winning the Best Documentary last night, it made an incredible one. The co-production between Palestinian and Israeli activists is an important document of our time, showing the Israeli occupation of Masafer Yatta in the West Bank for a global visit. While most of the documentaries were recorded before the October 7 terrorist attacks and subsequent wars broke out, distributors found it too controversial, the audience and the academy voters clearly disagreed. The film’s two directors, Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham, delivered the only public political speech of the night, who called on the world to stop “ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people” and Abraham called on U.S. foreign policy to stop peace and freedom. It is a powerful moment of unity and possibility, in a ceremony that seems to dislike politics.

The biggest underperformance: evil,,,,, A completely unknown

When the show opens with an overlapping performance by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, finally taking a live rendition of “Battle of Gravity” as an example, Oscar Radio seems ready and willing to highlight it evil– If only the colleges feel the same way. The musical walked away with two well-deserved awards (Best Costume Design by Paul Tazewell, the first Black and Best Production Design to win the category), but it fell into other technical categories. Really surprised Dunes: Part 2 Instead, the best sound and the best visual effect are replaced. Given its dull nominations and duneit seems that the sequel is not destined to win anything, but the appearance can be deceptive! surprisingly, Dunes: Part 2 It was the only Timothée Chalamet car last night because A completely unknown Zero eight. Bob Dylan’s photo appears to be the main participant in attending the ceremony, but ultimately did not register with voters.

The biggest production failure: timing should be everything

Conan O’Brien no Wasting time as a host, but the entire show doesn’t have a good understanding of the actual meaning. One of the big messages from Conan that night was that the Oscars were celebrated for artists who didn’t receive A-list recognition (or salary), so it was nice to see five speakers for specific types of categories like Best Clothing Design and Best Photography. However, the fact that other technical categories do not receive the same treatment is strange. Have we done it? need A long tribute to James Bond, or the time that could be spent on the nomination for the best visual effects and best production design at that time? Similarly, Oscars seem to have chosen the person they want to play, from Dunes: Part 2 VFX and Sound Team, but let BarbariansAdrien Brody’s drone lasted nearly six minutes. It is a hypocritical production choice to say the least and disrespect the winner. But hey, at least we have to see dune Sandworm plays the piano!
