As a lifelong Star Trek fan, my most popular opinion is deep space nine is the best show in the entire legendary sci-fi series. Part of what makes the show so resonant is that its ending leaves Captain Benjamin Sisko’s ultimate fate very unclear.
But now, what’s coming starfleet academy The show is about to reveal his fate. I have a sneaking suspicion that these revelations will ruin Star Trek’s greatest show.
teasing disaster
Worry starfleet academy It started about two months ago when the first trailer was released. Look closely and you can see a character staring at a screen with the silhouette of a man on it. Above it reads “The Fate of Prophet Benjamin Sisko.”

We’re going to do some cool stuff that hasn’t been done in a long time, and I think it’s really going to honor the fans who have been waiting to see what happens.”

When the first trailer was released, I tried to tell myself that the Sisko screen was just an Easter egg. Maybe it’s just a simple confirmation that Starfleet still cares about Sisko eight centuries after he became the Prophet.
However, the showrunners’ comments about the “mystery” and reassuring fans who “have been waiting to see what happens” make me think the show will answer the big question: when or if Cisco will return to reality with invisible profits. The plain fact is that no matter how they write this deep space nine characters into the show, which will piss off old-school fans like me.
exist deep space nine In the series finale, Sisko captured Gul Dukat from the cliff of the Bajoran Fire Cave, preventing Gul Dukat from releasing the Pahwraith. Dukat dies, but Sisko is saved by the Prophets, with whom he will spend an unspecified amount of time living in a dimension that exists outside of time and space.
He later appeared to his wife, Kassidy Yates, through a vision, and she asked her when her husband would be back. “It’s hard to say,” Sisko said. “Maybe a year, maybe…yesterday. But I’ll be back.”
Paramount is about to ruin the best Star Trek show
Personally, I’m growing to like the ambiguity of Sisko’s fate. When it was revealed that Cisco actor Avery Brooks would never return to Star Trek, I resigned myself to the fact that fans would never know what happened to the famous (and sometimes infamous) Starfleet captain. But it now appears that the movie will shed light on the character’s ultimate fate without Brooks’ involvement, and it’s sure to be a major disaster for a number of reasons.
First, even if starfleet academy The writers came up with a cool idea for Sisko (unlikely; more on that soon), and there’s nothing cooler they came up with deep space nine Fans figured it out. We’ve all spent decades trying to figure out the main criteria for the character’s eventual return, and any official explanation will inevitably be disappointing. There’s always the (terrible) possibility

Will we find him back and ending the Cold War in space and time, or has he popped up in the distant past and joined Division 31? Both ideas are as bad as TNG Season 1 episodes, but I wouldn’t think a modern Star Trek writer would do such a stupid thing to the series’ coolest character, ruining him in the minds of fans from the golden age of Star Trek.
I hope to be proven wrong here: maybe starfleet academy It really only teases Cisco’s fate with a weird monitor pop-up and doesn’t go any further. Unfortunately, modern Star Trek writers aren’t known for restraint, so Sisko’s fate could somehow be tied to one of NuTrek’s infamous season-long mystery arcs. If that happens, long-time fans may have to answer a mystery of their own…the mystery of why they’re still watching a franchise that’s slowly sinking into a black hole of creative decay and hollow corporate pandering.
