Constitution Day (formerly known as Citizen Day) is celebrated on September 17. It commemorated it in the time of the U.S. Constitution signed in 1787, and many schools have delved into the history of the documents of this century. If your school receives federal funding, the law requires that this day provide some education on the Constitution.

1. Start with the basics
Start with a Constitution Day event or course that introduces documents with age appropriate classes. Explain its meaning, the events that lead to its creation and the fundamental role of citizens from 1787 to the present in shaping the U.S. government and its civil rights.

2. Draft classroom constitution
One of the most attractive ways to teach a constitution is to have students create their own constitution! Ask students to work together to develop a draft constitution for your classroom. In this event, they can discuss and vote, discuss rules for managing classrooms. Not only is this a fascinating way to teach the Constitution, but it is a great classroom management activity at the start of the school year.

Create a search or escape room clue that requires students to find information about a specific article, amendment, or facts. For younger students, try a luggage book or mental illness with students creating, assembled and organized information about the Constitution, all of which helps enhance retention and mastery!
