Pasadena cancels swimming plans citing concerns over immigration raids

The city of Pasadena canceled swimming classes and other recreation programs at its three parks on Saturday, citing concerns about possible immigration enforcement by federal agents.

Lisa Derderian, a spokesman for the city, said officials saw a post on social media that “seemed to be a federal law enforcement activity” that showed “seemed to be a federal law enforcement activity” in Villa Parke, north of Highway 210.

In social media posts, the city said in Villa Parke, Robinson Park and Victory Park canceled plans “out of caution” to avoid “potential conflicts that escalate gradually, which is a raid of federal law enforcement activities.”

Officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs Border Protection Agency did not immediately respond to the New York Times inquiry.

The city’s announcement comes a few blocks from Villa Parke after federal agents were detained at the bus stops at Grove Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue in Orange. The action sparked an angry response from U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, whose congressional district includes Pasadena and other politicians.

Chu said an unidentified agent pointed out a gun in the incident where he was arrested in the video, trying to capture a video of the agent’s license plate.

“The Icefield Agent jumped out of the car and pointed at a gun, as if he was going to shoot the young man just to shoot the video of that license plate.” “It’s outrageous.”

TimesTaf writer Lang Lin II contributed to this Report.
