Photos of S.Korean scholarly distort the high justice in the north

With the South Korean Constitutional Court’s verdict on President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment, social media posts have repeatedly shared collages of their wrongly claimed to portray judge Moon Hyung-Bae who visited North Korea. But the person in the picture is Kim Geun-Shik, a Korean academic and politician at a summit in Pyongyang in 2007.

“Moon, the head of the Constitutional Court, is a pro-North core who visited the North and fell down due to his honey trap,” a Korean Facebook post was posted on March 9, 2025.

It includes a collage showing a man meeting with former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and taking a photo with a woman wearing a dress that is usually formally worn in the north.

The text above the image claims they show the moon, and the post accused him of being a “spy” who was “into North Korea’s honey trap.”

Pro– Yoon social media users widely share the same collage on Facebook and claim compensation.

Moon is one of eight judges for whether to evacuate President Yoon, who has failed to impose martial law in December 2024.

The page lists Kim Geun-Shik as one of the people in the photo, all shot in the reception hall in Pyongyang – but no mention of the moon hyung-bae.

AFP previously debunked the shaped image, claiming it could show the moon sharing child pornography and fake news reports about the allegations, as well as the changed images, showing him speaking in front of the Chinese flag.
