I have to admit, when I first saw the caddy in Pinned Golf, I was a little intimidated. And then the hits kept coming. A lot of my creator friends got this device and I was super jealous. So when I raise my hand to test a new device, I raise my hand faster than anyone else. I’ve had the opportunity to use it a few times while playing a brand new course without a cart GPS, and it has truly been a lifesaver.
First and foremost, the idea is really cool—so cool that it won the Best New Product award in its category at this year’s PGA Show. The Caddy is a standalone device with its own data signal, allowing you to take your cart GPS screen with you wherever you go. Whether you’re a walker or in a shopping cart without a GPS screen, Pinned Golf Caddy will be with you. The best part is…no subscription required. Pay once and get your device fully unlocked at no additional cost – And it’s currently on sale for $50. Great, fixed.

Inside the box, you’ll get the Caddy touchscreen tablet, charging cable, and device hard case, which is very convenient so you can toss the Caddy in your golf bag without worrying about any potential damage. Logging into your device for the first time is easy and can be done with any WiFi signal. It only takes a few minutes to load it properly, and then you can explore the interface on your own. It’s a very easy-to-use experience and there’s zero learning curve to getting to know the software. They designed it to be a seamless experience that’s as familiar as using the shopping cart GPS screen or other GPS apps that have been around for years.

When it comes to GPS functionality, Caddy can’t do it all. Since it’s a stand-alone device, you can download your course onto the tablet before the game, or you can find it when you arrive at the club. They have over 45,000 courses and counting. This tablet is very power efficient and lasts me about three rounds before I even worry about it running out on me. The screen is bright enough to be seen in sunlight, and the magnet is strong—much stronger than any rangefinder or other golf accessory I own. It’s also IPX7 waterproof, so even if you get caught in a storm, you’ll still know how close you are to the clubhouse’s dry terrain.

When you park on a new hole, you can view several different viewpoints, including a drone-style flyover of the hole, 2D and 3D views that you can maneuver around, and the ability to get a close-up of the hole so you can check for hazards or tighter landing spots. No matter where you are, you can get real-time updates on the front, middle, and back distances of the hole you’re playing, and of course you can use the touchscreen to find distances to specific areas of the hole, which is great for knowing if your 7-iron can carry a bunker to the green. The Caddy can do everything a regular in-car GPS can do, but that’s just the beginning of its capabilities.
In addition to being a reliable GPS device, you can record scores, track statistics, and even track matches between you and your golfing buddies. It’s hard to argue about handing over $5 when the caddie is following the action closely.

Now, I can’t write this article without addressing the most obvious and common question that all my friends ask me: Can’t I just use my phone?
I’m not going to lie, that’s what I thought too. But then I realized the benefits of using Caddy via mobile phone. The first may be a niche issue, but for some reason the GPS app I choose on my phone doesn’t let me play music at the same time. So that’s a big thing when we’re trying to keep the vibe high. I can put the Caddy on my shopping cart with my Bluetooth speaker and have zero issues getting my Spotify playlist on and it doesn’t touch my phone while playing. You don’t actually realize how nice it is to not have to interact with your phone at all while playing a game until you’ve played an entire round without ever having to touch your phone. I don’t want to see those notifications that I “missed the meeting” while I was playing golf at noon on Tuesday.
Finally, there is a cool factor to this product. I dropped it on the shopping cart at my hometown club, which didn’t have a GPS screen and everyone was jealous. They all asked me where I got it and how I got it. Our pros have even discussed with me the possibility of renting some GPS devices during tournaments, which would be great for guests, tournament players, or anyone else who wants to enjoy the benefits of a GPS device. Not to mention that score and game tracking may prevent some battles in daily men’s games.
