PlayStation Classic Theme Returns to PS5 in the next update

If you are like me, there is no influential attractions and sounds without the PlayStation 2 launch menu. If that’s the case for you – you may also be 30 for beginners, and we’ll work it out together – but there’s good news for Sony, too: The classic theme of the PlayStation 5 is coming back, and this time it’s permanent.
Sony confirmed the news in an official blog post on Wednesday and introduced new features for the PS5 in the next system update. In addition to some nice new audio options, you can also redesign the console’s UI deck deck according to its classic predecessors: PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4. These were introduced as a limited-time product last year for the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand, but they got along so well with long-time fans that they are back.
“Due to the overwhelmingly positive reaction of our community, we’re happy to bring back the look and feel of the four console designs for players to customize the home screen on the PS5!” the post explains.
Updates including these classic UI themes will be available on Thursday, April 24.
“For Sony, it would be a great move to give players the option to redecorate the UI as a great move to remind them of their precious days to launch their first PlayStation game,” said David Lumb, senior CNET reporter. “It seems stupid to keep the theme for a limited time, just return them now, but I’ll take what I can get. The PS1 boot sound should live outside my head.”
Last year’s initial product also included a more general 30th anniversary UI theme that won’t return in this update, although I suspect most people even remember this update.
According to Sony’s announcement, it’s unclear whether these new themes will change the appearance of the PS5 in the launch sequence or change the line of sight and sound only for the main menu. Sony did not respond to CNET’s request for comment before it was released.

Other things in the PS5 update
The winning returns of these nostalgic themes are obviously what most people want to focus on, but Thursday’s update will also offer some cool new ways to tweak the system’s audio. According to the blog post, these new features will be called “audio focus” and can be used by going to [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus]. If you’ve ever adjusted settings on the speaker bar or used conversation enhancements from the Apple TV Streaming Box, these options should feel familiar, and it’s nice to see the PS5 expand its options for people like me who sometimes struggle with conversations in movies, performances, and games.
The audio focus options are as follows, as described by Sony:
- Boosting the bass: Amplifying the low frequencies sounds like a roaring engine and rumble.
- Enhance sound: Amplify voice chat, character voice and other mid-frequency sounds.
- Raise the high pitch: Amplification of high frequencies sounds like footsteps and metallic sounds.
- Enhance the quiet sound: Amplify low volume sounds in various frequencies.
