Poland accused former officials of explaining the country’s defense plan
Warsaw, Poland (AP) – Polish prosecutors filed charges on Friday against a former defense minister who rejected part of a defense plan that had been prepared for several years under an earlier government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Mariusz Błaszak, the defense minister of the National Conservative Government, held powers from 2015 to 2023, revealed in 2023 that a military defense plan was formulated in 2011. The document sets out plans for the Polish army to retreat westward to the Vistula River, which extends from the center of Poland to the center of Poland in case of Russia from the east, which runs through Poland.
According to the state news agency, he told reporters that Błaszczak was read in the Warsaw District Attorney’s Office.
He said he believed the allegations were unfounded.
Earlier in the day, he wrote on X that the prosecutor’s office was “putting charges against me because they disbanded the first Ivory Government’s plan to abandon half of Poland without fighting”.
“I will do it again without hesitation. I have not only rights, but also responsibilities,” he said.
He added in Tusk’s speech: “Thanks to this, the Poles know the truth about the fate you have prepared for the residents of eastern Poland. So, therefore, no one will return to such a plan.”
