A vehicle drove into the crowd in the western German city of Mannheim on Monday, local media reported. Police operations were underway in the middle of the city when crowds gathered in Germany to march in the city to commemorate the carnival season, Reuters news agency said.

In a statement posted on social media, Mannheim police confirmed a continuing operation and asked for a “wide detour” to the city, but the troops did not share any further information.

Witnesses at the scene told Reuters they saw several people, including two medical staff, who appeared to be working to recover.

Local media quoted witnesses as saying that some people said there was a black SUV drive at high speed, and the area was participating in a parade, hitting people and giving several injuries.
