William asked Mannings how she coped with her husband’s untimely death, noting: “Of the families I’ve interviewed who have had to endure suicide, there’s a lot of unanswered questions that stay with you forever, really, aren’t there?”

“I’ll always look back at the last few days with him and wonder what I missed,” Mannings responded. “Before we lost George, we were very happy. I think that shows that this really can happen to anyone.”

“If you could say something to Paul, or wanted to say something to Paul, what would you say?” Royal then asked.

“If I had time with him, I would only say one thing to him. And that’s, ‘Why don’t you talk to me?’ I ask myself that every day,” Mannings responded. “I wanted to sit him down like this and say, ‘Why didn’t you come to me?’ Because he missed out on so much joy and we would have been fine. I think that’s the hardest thing, we would have been fine.”
