Midjourney launches new V7 AI imaging model that can better handle text cues

Midjourney released the Alpha version of V7, which says it is a “new” AI image generation model and is smarter when it comes to handling text cues. The Midjourney team said the image quality produced is significantly higher and can create better texture, body and hands. AI image generators are often difficult to create accurate hands-on portrayals, but based on photos posted by some users during social events, the V7 is able to spit out some images of human hands.

The new model has a feature called “Draft Mode” that can present half the speed image at the speed that the program usually takes. Its results are rougher and detailed, but it will cost half of the standard generation cost. Midjourney said draft patterns are the best way to iterate ideas. You can use it, for example, if you work with someone and just spit out big ideas with them – it can work with sound, so you don’t even have to type in each other’s suggestions – or you’re not sure what kind of atmosphere you want. If you like the image that Midjourney creates in draft mode, you can click Enhancement or Change to re-render it with full quality.

At launch, the V7 will have turbo and relax modes for standard rendering, the former costing twice as fast as the V6 model works. Midjourney takes more time to optimize the V7’s standard speed mode, but it will make that option available in the future. The new mode also lacks more features, including upgrades, editing and revalidation, which will boil down to the current V6 model. Midjourney promises to launch new updates to the model weekly or twice over the next two months.

In order to be able to test the Alpha version of V7, you must first unlock the personalized profile. Midjourney describes personalization as a “style assistant for image creation” because it teaches your visual preferences. You must rank at least 200 pairs of images to create a V7 global personalized profile and test the model. Personalization is turned on by default for V7, but you can turn it off if you want.
