Rangers Select Carl Edwards Jr., specify Caleb Boushley

Ranger chose right-handed contract Carl Edwards Jr. According to multiple beat writers, from Triple-A Round Rock. To create space on the 28-and-40-person roster, Texas-designed right-handed Caleb Boushley Make allocations.

Edwards’ 2025 season includes two major league games with the Angels, brief games in the Mexican League and 15 games (and 50 2/3 innings) at the one-third level with the Angels and Rangers’ top chapter players. His time in Mexico ended when the Wanderers signed Edwards to a minor league contract in July, and today’s choice is a complete moment in a veteran’s career. Texas picked Edwards in the 48th round of the 2011 draft, but he never wore a Rangers uniform to compete in the Major League because the team handed him over to the Cubs before the 2013 trade deadline.

After debuting in Chicago in 2015, Edwards became a staple in the Cubs’ bullpen in the 2016-18 season, but in the following years, Edwards had a sporadic success rate. Since its opening day in 2019, Edwards has shot seven different teams from seven different teams in the Mapar League, with an ERA of 4.28 in that nomad innings. Righty’s contribution to the past two seasons includes only one game against the Padres in 2024, followed by two games he had with the Angels earlier this year.

Edwards’ 5.31 ERA in 39 innings at Round Rock won’t jump off the page, but his 26% strikeout rate, 7.7% walking rate and 53.6% ground rate are more palatable. The heavy ground Arsenal contributed to that swelling era, as Edwards had an unfortunate .362 Babip with the Rangers’ Triple A Club. Although Edwards is best known as a rescuer, he has been working hard to reinvent his starter in the Mexican League and minors, and he has seven of his eight games in Round Rock.

The Rangers used six different pitchers in a 11-0 loss to the Astronauts yesterday, so it is likely that Edwards would be proposed as a long-term relief option for waves of steals, rather than as a candidate for rotation. If Edwards does happen to start, it will be the first start of his 11-year American career.

Boushley was one of the pitchers who occupied the mound in yesterday’s rout and was hit the hardest, allowing five runs in one inning of relief work. If this DFA marks the end of Boushley’s time with The Rangers, he will book his five-game appearance as he was also hit by five ERs in 3 2/3 innings in his April 12 debut at Texas.

More than 43 2/3 innings this season, Boushley’s ERA has an ugly ERA but a more respected 3.81 Siera. There are some bad hitting luck (.358 BABIP) that are blamed on the loss of stocks, not to mention the stock ratio. Boushley has a good walk rate of 7.3% and 21.2% strikeout rate, so the team of competitors exploring the exempt wires may be interested in the service of the rights. Boushley has two minor league options for the remaining years, so the waiver claim now may be more designed than the remaining campaign in 2025 to add depth of relief in 2026.

Boushley only threw 6 1/3 of the major league innings by 2025, with his ERA of 4.60 innings in the Triple-A class (97 of 105 games). He had a straightforward attitude toward his resume, so if he cleared his immunity, Boushley had the right to refuse to go straight to the round rock mission and instead choose a free agent.
