Report – Rory McIlroy’s driver is considered unqualified

According to Siriusxm PGA Tour Radio, Rory McIlroy was forced to use backup drivers in the PGA Championship and was considered unqualified.
McIlroy tied for driving accuracy among the 74 players who advanced on Friday, hitting just 10 goals in two rounds. He hit four out of 14 fairways on Thursday, ranking 150th among 156 players in the field.
The Masters champion cut that number as the bogey on the last hole was driven toward the corporate tent.
For the second day in a row, McIlroy left Quail Hollow and refused to talk to the media.
USGA test clubs to ensure they should meet the requirements of the US and Mexico matches and confirm that when the US PGA requirements it did take tests at Quail Hollow. All tests were completed before the first round.
“The program is consistent with the same level of support we provide for the PGA Tour, which is part of its regular driver testing program,” USGA said.
The result is confidential.
About one-third of the field is randomly tested, and so is the standard process, U.S. chief champion Kerry Haigh said in a statement Saturday.
“It is not an unusual situation to find a driver’s head crawling on consistency, especially for clubs that have been hit thousands of times for a long time. The results are confidential to protect players who do not know that the club is not responsible and not responsible. “To publicly identify a player whose club does not meet, it may cause the player to be unnecessarily questioned.” Neither the Americans nor the American PGA care about the player’s intentions. ”
A previous test case was in the Open Open in 2019 at Royal Prowush, when Xander Schauffele was one of 30 players, tested by R&A, who managed golf anywhere outside the United States and Mexico.
Schauffele said he didn’t know his driver until the notification and then worked that Tuesday night to find a replacement. He was angry with R&A because he didn’t keep things secret.
“My fellow opponents are called liars,” Schauffele said in 2019.
After heavy use, the driver will usually fall outside the limit. While McIlroy and others will carry backups with you just in case, players may spend some time as comfortable as the regular driver.
McIlroy tied for seventh place in the Truist Championship last week. Last month, when he won the Masters for the 17th time, he would be the only sixth player in his career, a career grand slam.
