Ben Shelton is headlined on the court and on the court, this time in the role of a reporter.
Just two weeks ago, at the U.S. Open, the 22-year-old American caught him off guard when his girlfriend, football star Trinity Rodman, asked him to tease him at a press conference.
Sheldon turned the table on Sunday. After Rodman scored two goals in Washington Spritis’ 2-0 defeat of Seattle dominance in the National Women’s Football League, Sheldon seized his chance to ask questions.
“First of all, I want to say great game, Terling. I have a few questions,” Sheldon told Rodman, who couldn’t curb her laughter. “There are two great combination goals today and it’s great to see that it’s so cool to see the assists. Can you talk about the dynamics of Croix Bethune and how you guys play with each other. It’s so cool to see.”
Rodman answered thoughtfully, but Shelton playfully reminded the U.S. public cameo: “No, I’m going to stay positive,” he joked, suggesting her sharp serving speed problem in New York.
Since her love affair was open in March, Rodman has been a fixture for many Shelton tournaments, including Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
Now that the shoulder injury situation forces him to retire from the third round in New York, the No. 6 player in the PIF ATP rankings is returning to support by cheering Rodman on NWSL Games, and even taking the microphone when the opportunity calls.
