Bryson DeChambeau, Martin Kaymer

On Friday at Martin Kaymer of Liv Golf Virginia, Va., Bryson DeChambeau cut a hawk and a birdie on his way to 5-66 under par.

After a brief weather delay, DeChambeau made the rankings, swinging 5-14 in the next two holes at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club and birding on the next two holes.

He was next to the chip in 14th position in a soft position, close to the slope, and his ball rolled right to the cup from right to left to right. On the 4th 16th pole, he missed the green, chopping his third pole from the thick roughness, just watching his ball head shoot straight to the pin and disappear again.

“Man, good things are falling into some soft conditions,” Danborg said. “For me, that little chip lens has become much easier. So I just stuffed it into the right place. I don’t know if you see it, but I was working on it before I left. I was thinking, it looked perfect, it looked perfect, it still looked perfect, it looked perfect, it looked completely where I wanted it to land, and it landed in Flickkin’s hole.”

DeChambeau defends his title next week at the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club. He is one of several LIV members who are either invited by USGA or are eligible for the third major of the year.

Australia’s Marc Leishman tied for third on Monday at a qualified location near Rockville, Maryland, where she grabbed one of four attractions. Leishman turned around and shot 67 on Friday.

Leishman tied for third with Phil Mickelson, who could play in the U.S. final next week. Spain’s Jon Rahm will look for his third career title; Chile’s Joaquín Niemann, who won the first special invitation from the USGA based on his LIV performance; India’s Anirban Lahiri; and Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell.

Rangegoats GC teammates Bubba Watson and Peter Uihlein tied for 3 with Patrick Reed and Belgium’s Thomas Pieters. Rangegoats leads nine shots with 9 shots, two shots better than the 4ACES and DeChambeau team Crushers GC.
