Roborock Saros 10 and S8 Maxv Ultra: All New Upgrades

Where is the Roborock S9?

If you are a fan of Roborock, you may be waiting for them to announce the Roborock S9 Maxv Ultra in 2025, the S8 Maxv Ultra previously S7 Maxv Ultra. However, Roborock decided to overhaul its naming convention and replaced the title of the S series with the simple Saros.

So there will be no Roborock S9 Maxv Ultra. Instead, the Roborock Saros 10 is its equivalent and the company’s flagship model for 2025.

While the Roborock Saros 10 is the company’s flagship store for 2025, the company has also released the Saros 10r This year. The two new models are similar in many ways, including their price tags – but there are some differences.

The most notable feature that distinguishes the two is that the Saros 10R uses a dual-rotating mop, although the Saros 10 has a D-shaped vibrating mop pad. The Saros 10 also has a small independent edge mop that lowers when detecting the edges, while the edge of the Saros 10R aims at the edges by swinging one of its mops on the hinge arm.

There are also some less obvious differences, such as robot vacuum navigation systems (Roborock says the Saros 10 uses LDS laser navigation, while the Saros 10R uses a 3D aircraft system). The Saros 10R is also suitable for smaller 200m2 areas, with shorter running times, only black, instead of having white options, and Its dock has a slightly curved top that is not suitable for putting anything on it.

The Roborock Saros 10 has many of the same features as last year’s S8 Maxv Ultra, including automatic mop washing and drying, automatic detergent distribution, and of course, the automatic tank empties dust on the charging base. These features are now standard on high-end robotic vacuum cleaners, so it would be even more surprising if either one is lost.

The most significant difference between the Roborock Saros 10 and the S8 Maxv Ultra is the design of the robot itself. While both have D-shaped mop pads and round shapes, many other features have been added or changed.

  • Saros 10 clears the higher threshold. Roborock notes that the Saros 10 can clear the 1.18-inch (3 cm) threshold, which is a maximum (4 cm) threshold of 1.57-inch (4 cm) if it reaches that height in multiple steps. By contrast, the S8 MaxV Ultra does not have any such lifting system, limiting it to a tiny threshold of about 0.8 inches (2 cm).

    Of course, you won’t want to push these restrictions if it can help you. Even if your home has a threshold of about 0.8 inches, the Saros 10 will be in a strait than the S8 Maxv Ultra. There is nothing more sad than watching the robot vacuum repeatedly hit a small lip on the millimeter of the small lip.

    In addition to clearing thresholds, the Saros 10 uses its lifting system to tilt from the body and applies additional pressure to the mop when wet stains are detected and lifts the robot onto a higher pile carpet to avoid blocking suction.

  • Different side brushes. One of the biggest changes is that the Saros 10 is not the Flexiarm Design Side Brush of the S8 Maxv Ultra, but has a Flexiarm Riser side brush. When the S8 Maxv Ultra’s side brush detects the angle, the Saros 10’s brush will also automatically retract and lift into the robot’s body when not needed to make sure it doesn’t accidentally collide with anything.

    The Saros 10’s brush also has an asymmetrical design designed to reduce hair tangles rather than the symmetrical three-sided brush design of the S8 Maxv Ultra. Although the S8 Maxv Ultra has not encountered major entanglement problems, the need for manual intervention should theoretically be further reduced.

  • Different roller brush configurations. Another big change Roborock made to the Saros 10 was swapping the S8 Maxv Ultra’s Duoroller brush to a duodenal anti-tangle brush. I saw before in Roborock’s QRevo series that the twelve-finger brush is actually two shorter rollers placed side by side. When their short bristles sweep away debris, their rubber blades are designed to guide the hair to the central gap between the drums so that it can be sucked in. Meanwhile, the Duoroller brush for the S8 Maxv Ultra has two full rollers, placing one roller in front of the other.

  • When not in use, the Saros 10 will automatically remove its mop pad. When either of them is not used, both the Saros 10 and S8 Maxv Ultra can lift the mop or the main brush. Even so, most people may not want to hover the wet mop over the carpet because it is vacuumed. The Saros 10 can automatically remove its mop pad when vacuuming and place it in a charging dock to pick it up if needed.

    While you just need to instruct the S8 Maxv Ultra to vacuum the carpet before moving the mop before moving the house, the Saros 10’s removable mop means you don’t have to worry about such issues.

  • The Saros 10 has a retractable LIDAR that can be used in thinner designs. If you have a robot vacuum, you will know that making sure it can actually adapt to low furniture can be a problem. The Saros 10 solves this problem by automatically retracting its LiDAR sensor when such obstacles are detected, making the robot vacuum very slim 3.14-inch (7.98 cm) design. This is a significant reduction compared to the S8 Maxv Ultra’s 4.96-inch (12.6 cm), which includes its fixed protruding sensor.

    The result is that the Saros 10 is significantly more thorough, sliding into difficult areas where the S8 Maxv Ultra doesn’t get a more satisfying cleaning.

There are a few other changes. Roborock claims that the Saros 10 has more than twice the suction power of the S8 MAXV Ultra, while the 22,000Pa is 10,000Pa. The Saros 10 is also significantly quieter than its predecessor, measuring 64dB in balance mode instead of the S8 Maxv Ultra’s 67DB. This doesn’t seem to be much, but it’s a significant difference – especially if you want to set up a vacuum when running while sleeping.

The Saros 10’s larger 6400mAh battery capability further allows it to run in quiet mode for 220 minutes, while the S8 MaxV Ultra has a 5200mAh capacity and 180 minutes of quiet mode runtime.

However, everything about Saros 10 is an upgrade. Although it offers an extra 40 minutes of running time, Roborock notes that the Saros 10 is suitable for smaller 240 m2 areas, rather than the 300 m2 of the S8 Maxv Ultra. This may not be a problem unless you are one of the lucky few who can own a house of this size, but it is still worth noting. The difference is presumably due to the Saros 10’s smaller tank capacity of 70ml, while the S8 Maxv Ultra’s 100ml isn’t as big as its predecessor.

Choosing the best robot vacuum cleaner is usually determined by your own personal needs and preferences. If you have hard floors, no lower furniture, and no threshold to want to climb, you might need the S8 Maxv Ultra. On the other hand, if your home even has smaller thresholds, low furniture or plush carpets – or if you’re worried about long hair tangling in a robot vacuum brush, you might have a better look at the Roborock’s upgraded Saros range.

It’s also worth remembering that older robot vacuums may not get support like newer robots, so consider when deciding which gadget to invest in. Although U.S. customers are not affected, the S8 Maxv Ultra has been listed as an end-of-life product in Roborock’s Australian store, i.e.
