Rocky Thompson is Bridgeport head coach | theahl.com

New York Islanders have been named Rocky Thompson AHL’s Bridgeport Islander head coach.

Thompson, 47, joined the Islanders after three seasons as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Flyers. He also served as associate coach for the San Jose Sharks in the 2020-21 season.

Thompson served as head coach of the Chicago Wolves from 2017 to 2020, giving the team a record of 113-71-29 (.599), two Central titles and berths in the 2019 Calder Cup final.

He is also an assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Barons (2010-14), helping the team reach the Calder Cup playoffs in all four seasons, including the 2012 and 2013 Western Conference Finals.

Thompson won the Memorial Cup in 2017 after two seasons as head coach at the Ontario Hockey League Windsor Spitfires.

Before joining the coaching squad, Alta’s Calgary (Alta). His 10th-highest penalty record in history.

Calgary’s Flame drafted Thompson in the third round of the 1995 NHL Draft, who competed in 25 NHL games against Calgary and Florida.
