McIlroy, 36, spoke with reporters on Wednesday, June 18 after this week’s Travelers Championship was expressed after he expressed his stress relief method after the final round of the U.S. Open on Sunday, June 15.
“I certainly want to relax and have a glass of wine on Sunday night,” McIlroy said. “I wouldn’t say it’s the best way to recover.”

During a busy PGA tour, McIlroy said he was trying to “re-integrate” the right mindset from Monday.
“I gave myself that day,” he said. “I think it’s very important to have Monday between games as a reset.”

After the final round of the U.S. Open, McIlroy admitted he was trying to find momentum after he won his first Masters title in April, which made him just the sixth golfer in history to win a professional grand slam.
“Look, I climbed Mount Everest in April, and I think after you do something like this, you have to back down, you have to look for another mountain to climb.”
When he provided time to reporters at the U.S. Open on Sunday, McIlroy decided to talk to them multiple times throughout the week. His reluctance has aroused the anger of many people in the golf world, including the Irish golf legend Paul McKinley.
“I don’t want to see it,” McGinley, 58, said on Saturday, June 14. “I think Rory is better than that. Either not talking to the media or not having such a press conference doesn’t provide fair or right service to his people.”
McKinley added: “He seems to be enough. I don’t know whether it’s the emotional release of everything that happened in his career. But he’s not himself. It’s not normal.”
