Rory McIlroy skips Ohio Memorial Championship

Ruler champion Rory McIlroy will skip the memorial contest next week in Dublin, Ohio.
McIlroy is not on the competition’s roster, the first time since 2017.
18 of the world’s top 20 golfers are expected to participate. McIlroy was second, while Bryson Dechambeau ranked 10th, competing in the Liv Golf League.
No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will defend his 2024 championship at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Since he finished his professional grand slam at Augusta National on April 13, McIlroy has finished two top 12 and ranked 12th in the Zurich Classic (April 24-27) and seventh in the TRUIST Championship (May 8-11).
McIlroy, 36, struggled last weekend’s PGA Championship, ended with three points and tied for No. 47. Scheffler took his third career major at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jack Nicklaus founded the Memorial Championship in 1976 and continued to serve as the host of the competition. No. 15 player Patrick Cantlay has won two titles in the past six years (2019, ’21).
