Russian tourists die after submarine sinks
When a recreational submarine sank in the Egyptian Red Sea city of Hurghada, Egypt, six foreign tourists were killed and another 39 were killed, Egyptian officials said.
The governor of the Red Sea Province Amr Hanafi said in a statement that the submarine and the Egyptian crew of five members brought 45 holidaymakers of Russian, Indian, Norwegian and Swedish nationality when it sank into a port in front of the Helgada Hotel, where Amr Hanafi sank into the port in the port of one.
He said that all six people died were Russian. According to Hanafi, four injured people were hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
No one missing in the accident is under investigation.
“The authorities are continuing to investigate with the crew to determine the cause of the accident,” he said.
Security and medical sources told DPA the submarine, known as Sindbad, cruised around the coral reefs in the Red Sea.
Helgada’s Russian Consul General Viktor Voropaev has so far confirmed to Tass News that the five killed tourists were Russians, two of whom were minors.
Egyptian security sources initially said the submarine suffered an engine failure.
In November, a tourist boat tilted down the Egyptian Red Sea coast near the Egyptian Red Sea coast. Of the initial 44 people on board, 33 survivors were rescued. Several bodies were recovered.
At the time, authorities said a large wave hit the ship, called the “Sea Story” and caused it to tilt.
