SAE-A subsidiary Win Textile realizes coal-free production in Indonesia
Win Textile’s transition is part of the Coal Zero project, one year ahead of the initial projected schedule.
The Indonesian site is now running as palm kernel shells (PK), a by-product of the palm oil sector known for its high combustion efficiency and reduced emissions.
With PKS usage exceeding 4,000kcal/kg, low carbon and sulfur emissions, the use of PKS allows the company to reduce its environmental footprint compared to conventional fossil fuels.
The company’s recent actions strengthen its commitment to achieving international climate goals and adhere to decarbonization standards set by fashion and sportswear companies around the world.
This change is part of a larger plan to improve energy efficiency in manufacturing activities, minimizing reliance on traditional fossil fuels and promoting lasting operational stability.
Founded in 2011, Win Textile’s Indonesian factory is a certified leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The plant began using 100% renewable electricity in 2022 and improved its green plan by installing a 1MW solar system internally in 2023 to enhance energy independence.
The company is considering implementing dedicated biomass boilers to improve combustion efficiency and reduce energy consumption and operating costs.
It is also testing alternatives to renewable fuels such as rice husk particles, cashew husk cakes and empty fruit bundles (EFBs), designed to be continuous flexibility and energy security.
Win Textile also intends to reduce its resource usage in its steam, hot oil, electricity and water systems to optimize efficiency while mitigating environmental impacts.
A victorious textile spokesperson said: “We believe that true sustainability must be systematic, not just a fuel swap, but an investment in infrastructure, supply chain diversification and technology. This is our blueprint for the look of textile manufacturing in the future jobs.”
SAE-A said Win Textile advances in sustainability propose a scalable low-carbon production model that retains both performance standards and accountability. This is due to the growing demand for brands for Scope 3 emissions and ensuring ethical procurement practices.
These efforts are said to help win over the climate strategy for textiles and help global fashion brands make tangible progress towards their scope 3 decarbonization goals.
