Samsung will reveal everything about its ultra-thin Galaxy S25 edge phone

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge flew to the attention of Gossamer-Thind Wings on May 12. Samsung hosted an “unpacking” event (this time a virtual one) to share details about the ultra-thin smartphone, which is slightly thicker than the USB-C charging port. The virtual event will be held on May 12 at 8 pm ET/5 pm ET. You can watch the live stream on the Samsung website or its official YouTube channel. Don’t expect new versions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, though, which may appear at separate events this summer.

Samsung debuted the Galaxy S25 Edge at its unpackaged event in January. The company eliminated the news of the phone as “another thing” of the event, but it didn’t provide much detail other than highlighting its thin frame. The expected April release date has not been eliminated, and Samsung has not yet detailed the device. Samsung said in a press release that the S25 Edge is “more than just a slim smartphone” and that it “opens up new eras of growth for the mobile industry.”

What else can we expect besides the thin-boasting executives about their phones? Maybe bragging about the camera. The company confirmed that its Slim device has a 200-megapixel camera that may be based on the main sensor on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but we need to see if it has the same zoom. The image shows that the phone has two lenses, while three or five lenses were found on other Samsung Android phones. Samsung has previously stated that the S25 edge cameras have “pro-level features”, which means they will be able to use Samsung’s photo editing tools. Phones may also keep AI design in mind, with at least some generated AI editing and creation tools available on current Galaxy phones.

Galaxy manufacturers will need to convince us why we should want a super slim phone. Rumors suggest that Apple will launch its own thin phone, the iPhone 17 Air, and may bring back the external battery case to make up for the more limited battery that the source says is said to be compared to regular and Pro iPhones. Ultimately, Samsung needs to prove that users won’t sacrifice too much for using slightly thinner, slightly lighter devices.
