Scientists have discovered that lead can indeed turn into gold (with the help of the Large Hadron Collider)

One of the ultimate goals of medieval alchemy has been achieved, but only one second. Scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (renamed CERN) were able to convert lead into gold using the world’s most powerful particle accelerator (LHC) Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Unlike the examples of transvariability we see in popular culture, these experiments on LHC involve crushing subatomic particles together, crushing at absurdly high speed to manipulate the physical properties of lead into gold.

LHC is often used to crush lead ions together to create very hot matter observed in the universe after the Big Bang. In doing this analysis, CERN scientists noticed the near-illusion that causes the lead nucleus to drop its own sons or protons. Lead atoms only have three more protons than gold atoms, meaning that in some cases, LHC causes lead atoms to lower enough protons to make it a gold atom for a second, and then immediately break into a pile of particles.

According to Cern, this achievement might be surprising to the alchemist on the day, but experiments conducted between 2015 and 2018 produced only about 29 gold pieces. The organization added that the latest trials are almost twice as much as possible thanks to regular upgrades to LHCs, but the quality of the work is still trillions of times smaller than a piece of jewelry is required. Instead of trying to chase wealth, the group’s scientists are more interested in studying the interactions that lead to this variation.

“Impressively, our detectors can handle frontal collisions that produce thousands of particles, while also being sensitive to collisions that produce only a few particles at a time, thus enabling the study of electromagnetic “nuclear transmission” process Marco van Leeuwen, Marco van Leeuwen, spokesperson for the large ION Collider Collider experiment Marco van Leeuwen said lhc says lhc says say says say says say says say says say says say says say says say says say says say says say says say says say says.
