Seattle homeless man randomly attacks old woman with her eyes gouged out

An elderly woman in Seattle, Washington, found herself in a horrific situation after a man gouged out her eyes with a nail board during a random attack.

Police arrested Pia shortly after the incident. The arrest was captured on police body camera footage, indicating that officers at the time were familiar with the suspect from past incidents.

“Who is this guy?” a paramedic asked an officer, according to media reports.

“He’s a regular,” the officer wearing the body camera responded. “He usually punches. I guess today he decided to make things a little worse than usual.”

After the officer said Pia frequently struck randomly on Third Avenue, another officer said: “He was notorious for randomly striking out on Third Avenue.”

KOMO News reports that Pia has been convicted of multiple assaults in the past and even stabbed someone eight times at a party. A jury found him guilty of the attack and he was sentenced to 18 months’ community imprisonment.

Pia was booked into the King County Jail eight times in 2025 after being arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault, indecent exposure, drugs, destruction of property, unlawful use of a weapon and malicious mischief.

Following his latest arrest, a competency hearing was initiated for Pea on December 11. The judge declared Pea fit to stand trial on Monday, December 29.

Marken’s family have since spoken publicly about the horrific incident, wondering if the attack could have been prevented while criticizing the police system.

“Take a stick with nails on it and, no, I’m going to hit her in the face as hard as I can, like — that’s not someone you can rehabilitate or help,” Marken’s son said.
