Senator Alex Padilla exploded the Trump administration on Saturday, calling it “small and unconfident” after Vice President JD Vance called him “Jose” at a press conference in Los Angeles the day before.
“He knows my name,” Padilla said during a Saturday morning appearance on MSNBC.
After weeks of federal immigration raids in the city and surrounding areas on Friday, visiting Los Angeles in less than five hours sparked protests and rebounds from state and local officials.
Padilla was dragged to the ground by federal law enforcement officers and raised a question in a press conference earlier this month when he was dragged to the ground by federal law enforcement officers and briefly detained Padilla.
Vance described the move of California’s first Latino senator as a “political theater” in his speech.

“He is the vice president of the United States,” Padilla said. “You think he will take the situation in Los Angeles more seriously.”
Padilla said Vance may take the opportunity to speak with families or employers affected by raids carried out by immigration and customs law enforcement.
After the mistake, other California Democrats gathered behind Padilla.
“It’s not a coincidence to call him Jose Padilla,” said California Gov. Gavin Newsom in an article on social media platform X.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass emphasized racial hues in Vance’s comments.
“I think he’s like anyone to you, but he’s not just anyone,” she said in a press conference on Friday. “He’s our senator.”
