Sergio Garcia won’t open Ireland after Ryder Cup misses

Sergio Garcia has withdrawn from this week’s Irish Open and told Golfmagic that the sting of no Ryder Cup selection led to his decision.
The Spaniard is not one of the general draft picks against U.S. European captain Luke Donald later this month at Bethpage Black.
Donald’s decision is not surprising. Garcia finished only the top ten in the last eight Liv golf games of the 2025 season.
However, based on historically leading Ryder Cup points, this still left some tingling and participated in the 10 contestants.
“I feel like I’m looking forward to being part of that team, so I feel mentally like mentally, and it’s a little tough (playing in the Irish Open),” Garcia told Golfmagic.
“I didn’t want to go there, nor did I want to be fully involved in the tournament and stuff, so I just decided to spend a little time with my family, do a few things, you know, something outside of golf, and then restart a little and charge the battery.”
One of them is visiting the U.S. Open – Tennis Edition – Garcia watched countryman Carlos Alcaraz beat Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
After the victory, Alcaraz said he plans to play golf with 2017 Masters champion Garcia on Wednesday.
“He has to give me at least 10 to 15 pictures,” Alkaraz said. “It’s going to be great. Sergio, I’m not that good, come on.”
