Despite the early dominance of Europe and the strong Americans on Sunday allegations, the 2025 Ryder Cup will be remembered by Bethpage Black’s unruly fans.
Things dropped so much on Saturday that many of the numbers in the U.S. games apologized to the European team.
Former Captain America Tom Watson is the latest news to join the competition, announcing that he was “shamed” by American fans’ actions in Tuesday’s social media post.
Ryder Cup fans on Saturday at Bethpage
Given the chaos that happened on Saturday at the Ryder Cup, it’s easy to forget that early in the week, players, media and observers discovered that Bethpage Black fans were “Tame.”
But this won’t last. Some kind of combination that Americans struggled with in the course the other two days, perhaps this week’s desire to predict fan behavior, has left a few viewers losing plot over the weekend.
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are often achieved goals, with two European stars responding to the crowd with obscene gestures and their own challenges, falling into chaos.
American players Justin Thomas, Cameron Young and Scottie Scheffler were the ones trying to quiet the crowd Saturday. Later, they apologized to their opponents for their bad behavior.
Captain America Keegan Bradley admitted that some fans have crossed what is acceptable.
After the game, Lowry revealed that McIlroy’s wife suffered “amazing” abuse during the event.
This brings us to Watson.

Watson is the captain of the two-time Ryder Cup. Although his team USA won its first championship in 1993, his 2014 Ryder Cup captain lived in notoriety. Team USA was beaten by Europeans and lost the third straight Ryder Cup scored 16.5-11.5
Afterwards, some players criticized Watson for overhauling the US Ryder Cup system.

On Tuesday, Watson went on X.com to congratulate the winning European team first, “I want to congratulate @RyderCupeurope on winning. Your team made a sensation in the first few days.”
But he quickly continued to criticize his fans’ behavior.
“More importantly, I want to apologize for our rude and mean behavior in the American crowd at Bethpage,” Watson wrote.
He then went further, claiming that he was “shamed” about what happened on the weekend.
“As a former player, captain and American, I’m ashamed of what happened,” Watson wrote.
While some fans certainly got out of control at Bethpage Black, it may have hurt the event forever, it does not provide a complete picture of the U.S. side.
American players have shown themselves throughout the week with class and respect, both after the chaos and losses in the course. European stars McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood acknowledged to golf’s Michael Bamberger during a celebration Sunday night that you can read all the information here.
