Nick Faldo said Liv Golf’s pros “get softer” without cutting the game, and the league’s business model is questionable, continuing his attack on the league now in its fourth season.
Talk to Brian T. Smith socketThe six-time main champion also said Liv Golf should “do your own thing” to discuss potential unity of men’s professional golf, part of a deal between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabia public investment fund, a supporter of LIV. But perhaps his sharpest idea is targeting Liv’s NoCut format, which guarantees its advantages on payday.
“I’ve seen it many times,” Faldo said socket. “These guys will fist – I’ve cut off staff and I still have a chance to win. It’s better than ‘oh, thank you very much. Thank you very much. I’ll be strolling around Waltz with 54 holes and I have a guaranteed check.” That’s not sports.
“Sports are bloody tough. The fear of failure is as strong as winning. I don’t think you’re not going to fail when you go on numerous failed tours. It makes you soft. I think some of these players are softer.”
It is worth noting that the PGA Tour has moved the event to a cut-free format after the composition of Liv. There are now eight games – Sentinels, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, RBC Legacy, Truist Championship, Travelers Championship, FedEx St. St. Jude Championship, The BMW Championship and Tour Championship.
In an interview socketFaldo also wants to know Liv’s business model and calls the players on this tour “the luckiest thing in the world.”
“I say players are the luckiest thing in the world because you hardly have heard of who has never won, played in a $20 million game,” Faldo said.
“You have a lot of people who have their own careers and get 10 times what they earn on the tour, guaranteed. Then, that couple gets absolute wealth and they really don’t move. So, hey, good luck to them. Go and do your own thing.
The comments continue with a series of pokes from Faldo to Liv. Before the 2023 Masters, Faldo said in an interview telegraph:
“I don’t object to them,” Faldo said. “They think the grass on the tour is greener. It’s good. What I got is him [Norman] These things are done to develop golf games. We have been here for 40 years or more, partners, partners. The truth is that they get rid of absurd cash quotes, and for some of them, it’s the right choice.
“But as we said, it became very quiet. I wish you even more luck.”
Then in September last year interview PA News AgencyFaldo jabbed Liv TV ratings, which seemed to be a tweet, said the CW network aired the broadcast of Liv Golf’s Greenbrier Championship, attracting viewers who are more professional than ESPN broadcasting Pickleball events. Brooks Koepka beat Jon Rahm in the playoffs in the Greenbrier Championship.
“I think we’re seeing now, wow, they have three seasons and they don’t have much impact on that. [viewing] Faldo said in the story. “It’s fun, kimchi is bigger than two stars in the playoffs, and it’s the kind of excitement that everyone wants. But it’s beaten by pickled kimchi.
“I think the most important thing is that the players are getting a lot of rewards with the scale of bonuses or appearance fees, and they aren’t moving. And I can’t see that change. Because it’s known that our attitude towards the public to golf has hurt my attitude towards golf so much. I’m still talking to my producers on TV and people are just watching.
Since Faldo’s TV reviews, Liv has transferred its broadcast to Fox’s channel family.
