If you don’t want it AI To scratch your music to learn, then it might be time to leave SoundCloud.
TechCrunch reported this week that the music streaming platform quietly updated its terms of service sometime last year to allow AI training to upload audio to SoundCloud.
“You expressly agree that your content may be used to inform, train, develop or as input to artificial intelligence or machine intelligence technologies or services as part of the provision of services,” the term reads through TechCrunch.

Soon after the TechCrunch report was released, SoundCloud clarified No Currently using user-uploaded audio to train AI. However, the company does not rule out doing so in the future.
Mixable light speed
“Soundcloud never uses artist content to train AI models, nor develop AI tools or allow third parties to scratch or use SoundCloud content to do AI training,” Marni Greenberg, senior vice president and head of communications at SoundCloud, told Verge. “In fact, we have implemented technical safeguards, including “no AI tags” on our website to explicitly prohibit unauthorized use.”
Greenberg further noted that music on the main tag will be exempt from any AI training and confirms that other users will have the opportunity to opt out of any such usage.
Greenberg told The Verge:
“this [terms of service] It is explicitly prohibited to use licensed content (such as music from the main tag) to train any AI model including generation of AI. For other types of content uploaded to SoundCloud, TOS allows AI-related usage.
Importantly, there is no such use so far, SoundCloud will introduce powerful internal licensing controls to manage any potential future uses. If we consider using user content to train a generated AI model, we will at least introduce clear exit mechanisms ahead of time and remain committed to transparency with our creator community. ”
So, as of now, if you’re uploading music, podcasts, or other audio to Soundcloud, that’s no Use it to train AI. But it seems Soundcloud is preparing for the day.
