‘Stranger Things’ star proves why child stars get a bad rap

Author: Chris Snelgrove updated

Season 5 stranger things It’s not quite dead yet, but fans have already begun the autopsy, trying to answer one simple question: What exactly went wrong with the show? There are several possible answers.

Season five featured dodgy special effects, poor writing and wildly uneven pacing. The real culprit, however, seems to be the acting, as evidenced by the performances of Millie Bobby Brown and Noah Schnapp, whose performances were so mediocre that they deeply disappointed even the show’s biggest fans.

From waffles to Botox?

For much of the season, Millie Bobby Brown has borne the brunt of criticism online. Many fans noticed that her character in Eleven seemed to have only one facial expression, which may have more to do with rumors of her using Botox than her actual acting skills. Regardless of the specific reason for her stiff expression and unchanged brows, seeing this scene stranger things The character’s complete lack of any real emotion beyond “mild consternation” proved to be a complete distraction for fans.

To make matters worse, Millie Bobby Brown’s character is stranger things. Due to her psychic powers and her past with Dr. Brenner, she is one of the few characters suitable to actually fight Vecna.

Viewers should be watching to see if Eleven reconciles with her father, Hopper, or if she ultimately sacrifices herself to finally stop the shady government experiment. Of course, we can’t care that much when Brown only has one look on his face: a man stuck on a toilet and second-guessing every decision leading up to this moment.

Coming out as a bad actor

Another adult child star who has done well this season is Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers. his stranger things The character went through a strange evolution: Because his kidnapping was the show’s inciting incident, he was almost completely absent from the first season. In later seasons, he’s not given much to do except mope about not liking girls, and then mope about some Mike-shaped boy not liking him.

Now, season five brings Schnapp’s character into the spotlight, giving him the psychic powers he needs to stop Vecna once and for all. Unfortunately, being suddenly promoted to leading role meant that Will had too much screen time, and audiences noticed the actor delivering wooden lines at the worst possible times. This comes to a head in the character’s coming-out scene, where the actor’s forced, almost stilted lines inadvertently make the scene awkward in what should be one of the most exciting moments in the movie. stranger things‘The final season.

Bad actor stands out among talented cast

It would be too bad if this happened to other characters, but it doesn’t: Sadie Sink, for example, gives a stellar performance as Max, so it’s easy to see why she’s about to become the next big star in the Marvel Universe. Gaten Matarazzo has done a great job in his character’s emotional arc this season, while Caleb McLaughlin’s performance had fans in tears when Max woke up from his coma. Heck, even young stranger things Newcomer Nell Fisher (now playing Holly) is surrounded by some of the show’s most senior actors.

Millie Bobby Brown and Noah Schnapp’s performances are stiff and wooden by comparison, and that’s all the more noticeable given that they’re both key figures in defeating Vecna. like other young actors stranger thingsThe two are looking forward to taking on new acting challenges after the show ends. Sadly, once the show was in their rearview mirror, the two seemed destined to learn a hard truth: It’s hard to land major roles when the only emotions you can convey are (respectively) constipation and depression.
