- Use this template to practice addition and subtraction. Print one or a pair for each student. Give students fruit manipulation and challenge them to express various mathematical problems using trees as workspaces. For example, for 2+5, the student puts 2 on the tree, then puts 5 apples on the tree and calculates the total.
- What could happen under this tree? Print a tree for each student and let them imagine what they might do in the shadow of the tree. The students then write stories and use templates to illustrate. How interesting it is to point out that a tree inspired many different stories when students share their stories.

- Students study trees and use these templates to introduce what they know about a certain tree. Students choose a type of deciduous tree, such as maple, oak or gold jewelry. They studied facts about trees and decorated the template with leaves and flowers that show how the tree looks when it is in full bloom.
- Do a “everything about me.” Students use branches on this tree template to list the things that make them unique. Each large branch can be a category: favorites, family, friends, skills. Students list detailed information about each category of the smaller branch. They can write a poem on the tree! It’s a great event for a homecoming night or bulletin board.
- Track the shadows. Cut out this tree template. On a sunny day, walk outside and lift the tree to create shadows on the ground. Track the shadows. Then, give students chalk and let them decorate the tree with colorful leaves.
- Create a tree of facts by studying and writing about the trees on small paper. Then, fold the pieces of paper onto the tree template. Students can open each leaf to learn a fun fact. Ready to start? Check out fascinating facts about trees.

- Research tree habitat. Students learn about the animals that will be built in trees and use this tree template and art supplies to build tree habitat. How does habitat change from winter to spring? Summer and autumn?
- Use these smaller trees to strengthen students’ commitment to care for the planet. Students decorate a tree and write a way to help the tree.

- Use these templates for research projects. Students choose a type of tree that they cannot see in their area and study where the tree grows. In which terrain does it develop? At what temperature will it increase? Where can they visit these trees? They add details to the tree template by filling in facts and information.
- These trees can also inspire storytelling. Randomly spread the trees, or have students choose and have students write a story involving the trees. Students can be creative about the way trees are combined, but they must show the tree in their stories.
- Retell an ABC story. We all know that Chicka Chicka flourishes, but what if the ABC tries to climb up a pine tree or a piece of sequoia? Students use tree templates to imagine how to place all 26 letters on the tree. Then, with some artwork, see if they can achieve it.

Students can then use construction paper or crepe paper to decorate the tree with flowers or colored leaves on the autumn spring or colored leaves. Classroom celebrations are celebrated using students’ finished trees as dining table decorations.
- Create symmetrical painted trees. Print these tree templates and let students use sponges (or leaves!) to paint one side of the tree. The students then fold the paper in half and see how symmetric their tree is once the paper is opened again.
- Use these trees as the basis for planting crystals. Use a salt solution with Epsom salt, borax or alum. Carefully pour the solution onto the tree, let it evaporate and leave the crystals behind. Tip: To do this, print the tree template on dark paper.
