The best nerdy sitcom isn’t The Big Bang Theory

Sitcoms are the best form of television (sorry, drama lovers, you know this is true), but it’s increasingly difficult to find shows that combine clever writing with hilarious and heartwarming performances. Luckily, the perfect sitcom — which launched multiple careers and ultimately changed the Marvel Cinematic Universe — is available to stream. that show is Community (2009), you can watch this Emmy-winning college classic now on Hulu.

The premise is Community A successful attorney was disbarred when his firm discovered he didn’t actually have a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University. Hoping to regain his job, he enrolled at Greendale Community College and quickly befriended a group of eccentric characters who formed a study group to keep up his grades. Soon they become good friends, but their relationship is constantly tested by everything from the conniving dean to the math professor who dreams of total campus domination.

The perfect cast for the perfect sitcom

Over the course of six seasons, he mesmerizingly and convincingly played a man who sets out to learn to be a lawyer (again) and ends up learning something else entirely: how to become a better person.

With the exception of Season 4, in which Dan Harmon was noticeably absent as showrunner after some behind-the-scenes drama, Community is a critically acclaimed show. The show has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the show for effortlessly threading together various sitcom tropes while providing its quirky characters with emotionally resonant beats and complete arcs. Critics also hailed it as the gold standard of comedy television that has yet to be surpassed by any other sitcom in the fifteen years since we were first introduced to Greendale’s delightfully crazy students.

Like those students, Community It’s more impressive than it initially seems: For example, it was nominated for ten Critics’ Choice Television Awards (for Best Comedy Series) and six Satellite Awards (for Best Television Release). In addition, it was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards and won one for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for “Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas,” although legions of the show’s fans believe the show should have won more Emmys given its consistently high-quality writing, acting, and directing.
