The cut down giant reveals the gap in tree protection
In the Nycamore Gap in Enfield, Oak in Enfield and more than 30 trees on a more personal level, there are more than 30 trees between 50 and 100 years of cutting down in nearby gardens, developers cut down 30 to 100 years of history in neighboring gardens one weekend, indicating our tree protection laws (UK Government Report Calls to Save Historic Trees in England, April 16). We should have a protection system like Toronto, Canada where almost all public and private trees are automatically protected and any cut down requires permission. Where cut down is allowed, the bylaws also require planting new trees, and if you violate the law, you can fine up to $100,000 (£54,000).

• A ancient oak tree cut in Enfield earlier this month may be preventable (Spurs contractors are believed to be the “high-quality specimen” that was cut down on April 17). Recently, a large oak tree near us was saved from a chainsaw for half an hour amid rumors that a neighbor quickly heard a hearing with district council officials.
If you have a tree near you, that’s what you find important, it’s worth checking if there are trees saving orders. We and the very active council officials were surprised to find that in this case, when other people with suspicious value realized it. Oak trees are particularly susceptible to this kind of damage.
