Post misleadingly claims to show Yemeni man and his child bride a child who died after the wedding
Online debates about differences in religious practices are often filled with misleading claims. In a circulating article in Nigeria, there is a screenshot of an eight-year-old girl in Yemen who allegedly died after suffering internal bleeding on her wedding night. The screenshot also contains pictures of a young girl and a gray man, the couple is said to be. However, this is misleading. While reports of a bride’s death on a wedding night caused controversy in Yemen in 2013 – authorities denied her death, recent photos circulating online have nothing to do with the situation. The man’s photo comes from a news report about imam, which was convicted in the UK in 2012, while the girl’s photo was already on the internet in 2010.
“RAWAN is an 8-year-old Arabian girl due to internal injuries! The pain ES suffered on her night. Her 40-year-old husband did not show mercy on wedding night (original),Read and write subtitles of posts.
The headline of the news article reads in the accompanying screenshot: “The 8-year-old child bride died of internal bleeding after her wedding night.”
The first line of the article (visible in the screenshot She is five times older, a social activist and two nearby residents say the situation has sparked strong media protests and has been resurrected about the jokes of the child bride (sic). ”
The screenshot also includes a picture of a young girl and a picture of a gray man, which shows that they are in the discussion.

The claim also appeared on Facebook as a screenshot of the same article. The position is dated March 21, 2022.
However, this claim is misleading.
Yemen Incident in 2013
Child marriage is common in Yemen. According to the latest UNICEF report on the topic, Yemen is home to brides with an estimated 4 million children, meaning they are married before they are 18 years old (archived here). Of these, 1.4 million people got married before the age of 15.
Internet search shows the article in the screenshot, which was posted on the Indian website on March 21, 2022 (archived here).
The second paragraph of the article states that the incident occurred “last week,” suggesting it happened earlier in March 2022.
AFP fact-check found no credible report on the incident that occurred in Yemen in 2022. However, in 2013 protests in similar cases, an eight-year-old reportedly died of internal bleeding in Yemen after marrying a man five times the size of a man (archived here).
Yemeni authorities denied the death occurred, and the reporter who first reported the story alleged that officials were trying to bury the case (archived here).
Bay News later published a video report in which they interviewed a man described as the girl’s father, who showed the media his child to show that she was still alive (and archived here and here).
Nothing to do with images
Reverse image searches show that images of men and girls are not related to the 2013 case in Yemen and that the two images are not related to each other.
The person in the photo is Ebrahim Yusuf Kazi, an imam who was imprisoned for pedophiles in the UK in 2011 (archived here).
His photos were published in many news articles at the time.
