Of course, Cuba refers to the Ministry of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk. As part of its federal overhaul push, Doge is pushing for staff cuts, office closures and a shift toward the Social Security Agency towards online services only.
Starting March 31, people can no longer call for changes in their direct deposit information or apply for retirement, survivors or disability benefits. These must now be done online or in a local on-site office. The move is intended to reduce fraud, SSA said. But critics believe it can keep older people out of the door without the need for the internet or travel method.
The Wall Street Journal reviewed internal SSA memorandum estimated that between 75,000 and 85,000 people per week can now be used in the Flood Bureau office. Meanwhile, nearly half of callers to SSA’s 800 phone number this year fail to reach the representative.

Cuba challenged those who defended change, responding to a user on X, saying: “You do realize that Social Security is refunding the money you paid from your salary? The government says they won’t cut payments in any way. Is it hard for older people to make it harder to confirm their bank accounts? Potentially causing them to not get checks?”
