This Will Be Meme: Justin Timberlake’s Iconic May Joke 25

It will be May! Wait, May is already here, so is the first meme of May this month. (May your fourth person be waiting for the Milky Way to turn.) A *Nsync song goes back to Memedom for a day or so, and then disappears for a year.

I’ll be a hit song for me, released by Boy Band *Nsync, back in 2000-25 years ago. In it, singer Justin Timberlake doesn’t actually sing, “It’s going to be May,” instead, he sings, “It’s going to be me,” but his Tennessee accent and his whirlpool inscribed on the word make it sound like he’s been popular for the five months of the year.

So every year, before the possible May, *nsync videos get spikes in YouTube browsing and memes start flying. In 2014, even then-President Barack Obama joked on Facebook, sharing photos of himself and Timberlake.

“Memes last forever”

*Nsync members recently talked about NBC’s memes today.

“‘It will be a gift that may be always given in May,” said band member Lance Bass.

The bass attributes the younger generation to keeping his songs alive.

“That’s the kids. They do it,” Bass said today. “I mean, the memes will last forever. Thank goodness. 25 years from now, who knows how Justin declares ‘me’? Thanks, Justin!”

Timberlake himself was joking. On the last day of April 2020, he tweeted a photo of his covered self with the title “It Will Be Possible”.

“Thank you, the internet,” Timberlake wrote in a tweet.

The meme of the quote dates back to the 2012 Tumblr post, and you can keep moving forward as long as you have Mess.
