Tiger chooses Akil Baddoo, option Jace Jung

Tigers announce they choose outfielders Akil Baddoo To the 40-man lineup. Infielder Jace Jung Has been selected as the corresponding active lineup move. The 40-man lineup has already had several vacancies due to recent cuts Kenta Maeda and Manuel Margotso there is no need to open a seat in this regard. Chris McCosky of Detroit News first reported that Baddoo was on the court today and Jung would choose for him.
Jung, 24, is a former first-round draft pick with a top 100 prospect, but the Tigers are still waiting for him to hit the major league level. In the second half of last year, he advanced to the .241/.362/.304 line in his first 34 major league games. Tigers obviously don’t fully believe in this performance because they strongly push for signatures Alex Bregman During the offseason, although he went to Boston.
Entering this year, Jung struggled in the spring, reaching .121/.216/.273. He was selected as a minor before opening day but smashed in Triple-A, cutting .239/.409/.463. It reminded him of three weeks in April, but he didn’t do much with this opportunity. Compared to last year, he shot 28.3% from 3-pointers, but no additional hits, resulting in the .111/.245/.111 line.
The Tigers obviously want him to spend more time on the farm to solve the problem, although he doesn’t have much to prove there. Last year, he cut .257/.377/.454 at the Triple-A level with 123 WRC+, which, as mentioned above, has performed well at that level this year. Nevertheless, it is understandable that the club considers his current performance unacceptable, which is unacceptable for competitive major league clubs.
The length of this optional allocated may be important for Jung. He entered the year with 45 days of Major League Baseball service, bringing him 127 less than his one-year record. He added another 23 days in his recent Grand Slam, but needs to recover quickly to be able to overcome this line. At this time, there are 137 days left in the regular season.
Jung has been a regular third baseman for the club for the past few weeks, so the club needs to come up with a new solution there. Javier Báez,,,,, Zach McKinstry,,,,, Andy Ibanis and Trey Sweeney The competition is still started at third base this year. McKinstry and Báez were also drawn to the outfield to cover up many of Detroit’s injuries there, but Baddoo’s promotion might allow the club to transfer some of these utilities from grass to dirt.
Baddoo, 26, appears to have a breakthrough season in 2021. Rule 5 pick, he hit 13 home runs, stole 18 bases and provided an outfield defense that could pass. However, his bats were spread all over the next three seasons. During the 2022-2024 campaign, he reached .203/.292/.328.
This is enough to get his stock to pass the exemption in the offseason. He then needs to have Hamate surgery in February and put him on ice in the spring. He has since recovered and has performed well in Triple-A. He has a .245/.336/.471 line, 123 WRC+ in 116 sets, and 6 stolen bases.
Detroit Outfield is currently by Báez, McKinstry, Kerry Carpenter,,,,, Riley Greene and Justyn-Henry Malloy. As mentioned earlier, Carpenter is often in designated hitter slots, and Báez and McKinstry may move even more to the infield, which may open up outfield minutes for Baddoo.
Matt Vierling Rehabilitation missions are about to be done and can also be a mix soon in third base or outfield pictures. Baddoo still has an option to restore Vierling and send it back to minors.
