Tinubu has criticized Nigeria’s reforms
One of the architects who won the 2023 election by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu criticized the reforms his government has made.
Nasir El-Rufai said in an interview with Arise TV that the president’s decision to import food to lower prices would reduce farmers in the country.
In response, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said that even though El-Rufai worked hard for Tinubu’s election, it’s time for him to never The disappointment of being appointed continues to move forward.
The 65-year-old founding member of the ruling all Progressive Congress party was nominated as one of Tinob’s most influential ministers before Parliament refused to refuse.
“You are not going to tackle food inflation by undermining domestic agriculture,” El-Rufai said.
“Food prices may be falling, but farmers are in poverty as they are competing with subsidized agricultural products in Europe and other countries.
“I have a lot of problems [Tinubu’s policies]I keep in touch with many senior officials in the government and I give them advice in private. ” he said.
The former minister also said his party abandoned its founding values and internal democracy, warning that he might leave if reforms were not carried out.
El-Rufai also said he supports Tinubu in 2023 not because he is the best, but because the 72-year-old is a candidate for his party .
He noted: “As a loyal party member, I have an obligation to support the candidates of the party.”
He also spoke about his nomination as minister, which was later rejected by the Senate.
“It is incorrect to reject my idea. The decision made by the President himself. He changed his mind, or something else affected him. No matter I keep going,” El-Rufai said.
The politician was recently seen by opposition figures as not ruled out moving to another party until the next election in 2027.
