Connections: Sports Edition has one of the weird purple categories today, and I think I can stare at this puzzle for a week without solving it. This is one of those “play letters” categories, and they are always fun after I see the answers, but I rarely do that. Continue reading the tips and answers.
Connections: Sports Edition is no longer using Beta, making its debut in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 9. This shows that the game has gained enough loyal players, and the sports game is The Athletic, a subscription-based sports news website owned by The The Times, will continue to be released. It does not show up in the NYT Games app, but now it appears in Athletic’s own app. Or, you can continue to play it online for free.

The theme is team. The four answers are clubs, sides, squads and units.
Green Words in Today’s Connection
The theme is Chicago Team. The four answers are Bears, Fire, Sky and White Sox.
Blue Words in Today’s Connection
The theme is the team Juan Soto plays for. These four answers are Metropolis, National, Padres and Yankees.
Purple Words in Today’s Connection
The theme is the initial letter change of the NBA team. The four answers are bread, seagulls, meat and slippers.
The toughest link: Sports Edition category
Connection: The sports puzzle can be tough, but it really depends on the sports you know best. Everything my husband has to do with Formula 1 and my best friend is a hockey enthusiast and I can answer any questions about the Minnesota team.
That said, it’s hard to choose the toughest connection category, but this is something that I’ve found incredibly encouraging lately.

#2: WNBA MVPS, January 21. Answers: Catchings, Delle Donne, Fowles, and Stewart.
